Fees
Clear fees before work begins. For a suitable standard case involving reasonable preparation and one final hearing of up to one day within the normal service area, fees are intended to remain proportionate to the amount in dispute.

Talk Legal Limited is not presently registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged.
Those are fixed prices for a suitable standard case as described below — not estimates, and not a range. If your case falls outside that description we quote individually in writing after the free assessment, and you decide whether to proceed. The service area covers England and Wales; hearings outside the normal travel area may require a travel arrangement or a different fee.
Payment is in advance, before any work begins.
Once a fee has been quoted and the case accepted, we ask for the fee before we start. Our fees are relatively small, and we don’t invoice after the work or chase payment.
What a standard quotation may include
The quotation will identify the actual work. A standard accepted case may include:
- —extensive review of the main case papers;
- —one conference by telephone or video;
- —preparation for the final hearing;
- —attendance as lay representative at one final hearing lasting up to one day.
When a different fee may be required
The table is not appropriate where:
- —the papers are unusually extensive or disorganised;
- —there are several witnesses or experts;
- —the issues are unusually complicated;
- —substantial documents still need to be prepared;
- —the hearing is expected to last more than one day;
- —the hearing is outside the normal service area;
- —an adjourned or additional hearing is required;
- —work is requested outside the original scope.
We’ll explain a different or additional fee before the work is undertaken. You will not be charged for additional work unless it has been agreed in writing.
Other costs
Our fee does not ordinarily include court fees, expert fees, travel outside the agreed area, accommodation, copying or other third-party expenses unless the quotation says otherwise.
Our written quotation identifies the work included in Talk Legal's fee. Where we arrange an independent specialist to carry out work included in that agreed scope, their cost is covered by the agreed Talk Legal price. Counsel's fees are not included unless expressly stated in writing; if counsel is proposed, we set out any additional fee for your agreement before you are committed to it. Where you separately engage a regulated firm or another professional, their own terms and fees apply.
