How It Works

The process below applies to every IFA member enquiry, whatever the service. No charge is made until the work and fee have been agreed in writing.

From enquiry to agreed instruction

  • —Choose the service which most closely matches the problem — Small Claims, Leasehold & Property Tribunal, or Employer Advice.
  • —Send a short explanation and the essential documents through the IFA member enquiry form, mentioning that you are an IFA member or a client of one.
  • —We confirm whether the matter is within the work we undertake and whether a conflict check or further information is required.
  • —If substantive work is offered, we define the work and the preferential IFA fee in writing.
  • —No paid work or retainer begins until Talk Legal has accepted the instruction and you have accepted the written terms.

No charges until you agree in writing

When you contact us, we confirm that there are no charges until you agree in writing that we may charge. No ifs, no buts. If we recommend against proceeding, or you decide not to instruct us, there’s no charge.

The preferential IFA rates apply once an instruction is accepted in writing. Until then, the initial assessment is free and carries no obligation.

Who carries out the work

The work is carried out by experienced legal advisers and advocates. They are not practising solicitors and Talk Legal is not an SRA-regulated solicitors' practice — but the assistance is practical, informed by years of real litigation experience, and considerably less expensive than a conventional solicitors' firm.

Talk Legal does not have the overhead structure of a conventional regulated solicitors' practice and all the costs associated with it. This allows Talk Legal to provide experienced, practical, inexpensive assistance.
